Donations from cruise lines

11 years 10 months ago #161418 by Rose H
Hi Hounddog,
Wanted to suggest that you take a look at another thread, the Ultimate Donation List,

www.ptotoday.com/boards/35-auctions/1512...timate-donation-list

It's a big thread, but it is loaded with comments from parents and PTO leaders about auction donors, what's worked, what hasn't.

I hope you find it helpful!

I've read several of their giving policies. Most of them do not give to schools or PTO/PTA organizations. I'm not sure what the reasoning is, but they prefer to give to larger charitable organizations (like Make a Wish, etc.).

Did you get anywhere with the cruise lines? I have tried in the past, but did not get any response from the ones I sent letters and emails to. If anyone out there knows any secrets about getting donations from cruise lines, please post. I am going on a cruise myself in October, and I'm going to bring my auction letter on board. Maybe you have to be a paying customer to get a donation!

Several of you have mentioned the idea of purchasing deeply discounted tickets from cruise lines (I believe it was Holland America), then auctioning them off in a silent auction.

Does anyone have a sample of a letter requesting this donation? Do you start by asking for free tickets, then they present you with the alternative offer? Also, any idea the cost of the discounted tickets?

Thanks, in advance, for all your input. I'm getting ready to start soliciting for our Fall Festival/Silent Auction in October. In the past, we have stayed strictly with businesses in our area, but I think branching out is a fantastic idea!
