Thanx for the responses--I'm a little confused as to why me too but I have everything documented and the principal knew everything from the start. Thanks again!

I am a little confuse why this came down on you.without knowing the problem I will answer the way I would handle it at this time. Anyways go to your principal and talk about the problem be honest and say I am going right to teh board with this. Our board meetings have a public forum that the general public can talk, go and talk, they will say we will look into it and you wont get a response that night, and that is why you keep going and get support from other parents. I would wait on the petition until you see how it gets handle, if it is a safety concern then it should be handled. The other thing it may be in the works and just not done yet, aks questions and take it from there

Not sure what kind of "problems" your talking about but if they are of a safety nature I'd immediately talk to the principal and if not satisfied go to the school board. If the issues are management type (perception of how teachers are treating students etc) then the principal is the way to go with other parents involved. See her response to your concerns and if you aren't happy then broach it as an agenda topic at the next PTO meeting or board meeting. I'm a big documentation person for this type of stuff so if you see it heading your way, document what you saw, what you said to someone in authority and what the response was. Then if you do have to elevate you can point to specific times/dates etc...good luck...dianna

I was in the process of applying for a grant, with the principal's approval, when issues snowballed on me. I ended up discovering possible building problems around the school and county came down on me. No one has discussed the proper procedure with me, just insinuated I was to stop immediately. Does anyone out there know how to get something done at a public school, proper procedure? What are parent's rights? Does everything lead to a signed petition among parents? Please provide some advise. I know all of this affects the relationship with the principal but it is being handled professionally so far.
