Too Good to Be True? Appoached with a "Cut-a-thon"

This guy doesn't even need people to say they're from our school, or that they need to bring the flyer! When I asked the Mom, she said she was pretty sure it would be ANY haircut they did that day. I'm waiting for him to call me; I'll be sure to get the details then. I think he was mainly looking for a way to get 700 or so flyers with his shop's name on it out there.

Our school district has this big issue with ANY advertising in the schools  --I really had to sell the idea of even letting plaques with donor's names go on the playground equipment they donate. I had to PROMISE there'd be no logos. And they've nixed a LOT of money in deals with Nike, Coke and a local realtor. Morally I can see their point, but I hate to say it--a buck is a buck.

It is my opinion that anyone in the community who is willing to assist us is a valuable commodity. If you are worried about losing money, I would ask the owner to put in writing that if funds are not raised beyond your costs, that the shop will reimburse your unit. I do like the idea though because it is one of those fundraisers that isn't (no giftwrap you feel obligated to buy even though you don't need it) Almost everyone needs haircuts.
I would also ask that they do it hourly instead of "those with a flyer". Ask that all the haircuts they do between ? & ? goes to the school rather than if you bring in this flyer. Your chances of making a profit is greater. Then you promote the time. That way you get credit for the unknowing who just wandered in to get the cut.

I was standing in front of school, when I was approached by a Mom I know with another Mom who is a hairdresser. The Hairdresser Mom said that her boss wanted to do a cut-a-thon (for advertising I suppose), and wanted to know how I'd feel about doing it for our Playground Fund. We would get the proceeds from any haircut (not coloring, perms etcetera).

This was a first for me; to be approached with someone sounding like THEY wanted to do something for US. Naturally, I'm leery of something that seems too good to be true, but then I'm neurotic. While I don't have a problem designing/handing out the flyers, I do feel he should pay for them to be photocopied. Is this wrong of me? I just see myself paying $35 for copying, then he does one haircut for $20 and I'm out $15!
