I just dealt with this at our school. I was told by our bookkeeper that you just need to use stationary with your letterhead (I designed ours, nothing fancy) then just add a ty and state what they donated and the value. That they have never given their tax ID number out. I will send you a copy of our Thank You tax receipt letter.

I need to make up a thank you letter and a tax receipt to the various donors for our Chinese auction. This is our first one, so I'm not exactly sure how to go about it.

Does anyone have any thank you letters that they could share with me? I would really appreciate it. Also, do I have to enclose our tax #? The principal was very guarded and basically told me that she would prefer I not give out that information. Do the businesses need the number, or will a receipt be enough?
