Chili supper and Talent Show cost

Both of our elementaries do a royalty contest(yes, we only have two and they merge into the 5/6 center and go on to middle, and high school together). They don't think that it would be worth it. At our elementary we've never made under $10K since I've been around and the other elementary school probably makes just as much. They also think that the kids won't participate because of their age. Without the auction and royalty contest I guesstimate us loosing at least $3,000.00.

I had thought of a cook off thing. I don't know how those work. Well, I have never done a chili supper and it has been YEARS since I have been to one.

What was there reasoning for not having the royalty contest? We do this too and it is our only fundraiser.

This something you might try. Our town does it each fall and it is a huge hit. They have different companies make a big pot of chili. Usually the banks, insurance companies, hospital, big corporations participate. The chamber of commerce sells a "tasting kit" for three or four bucks consisting of a bowl, spoon, napkin, crackers, and a mint. Then you can go from display to display and try them. We also have a professional division, but that's a lot of work to get your contest certified.

Here is what I think we are doing. Everything that we had decided on at our PTO meeting was pretty much rejected by our SBDM (that is our governing body for our school) and changed with their own ideas. So instead of a Royalty contest, basket auction, chili supper, and talent show. We are just having the two latters. We have no idea how to charge or how much. We thought about having 1 set price for both and a price for each. I am thinking around $5 for the supper maybe $2 for the show and $6 for both. We are a low income area. For the supper there will be chili, sandwich, drink, and dessert. Any suggestions? I suppose we will have to get this approved by SBDM also. I am used to having everything approved by the BOE and they say "yes" or "no." Actually, I've never known of them saying no. This is alot for me to swallow.
