Our school published a cookbook using Morris Press. Their website is www.morrispress.com. They will send you a nice introductory kit and their prices were very good. I used their software to type the recipes myself to save money. It was difficult getting recipes from families. I had to send out several notices but we did end up with 420 recipes in our book. We ordered 600 books which arrived last March and to date, we have only sold around 300 books. I was hoping for better sales. Good luck if take on this project.

We published a cookbook last year. We were all set up to use a service and then due to a bad hurricane season, we missed our deadlines and had to self-publish to get them delivered before holiday break. I think the cookbook services can turn a book around in less than 8 weeks once all of your recipes are collected and organized.

It took us a very long time to collect recipes. We had started in the spring and asked for more at the beginning of school. Most of them came in on the last week of the 'final call'.

Self-publishing wasn't too bad, but only because I had desktop publishing experience. The best thing about it was we could customize the filler material -- we used quotes about cooking from our kindergarteners and historical trivia about the school (since it was in honor of our 40th anniversary). We also made 3 different indices -- by recipe and by contributor, family and friends and staff.

Our local printer turned printed in 2 weeks and it took another week to spiral bind. We ordered 1,000 books.

Good luck. If you do it, I might have some advice to offer.

If you don't expect too much from me, you might not be let down. <img src=images/smilies/smile.gif>

Has anyone ran a cookbook sale. It sounds like a great idea but a lot of work. Can it be done and delivered by the holidays if I start now. Has anyone done it not using a company but published it themselves. Approx how much should it cost and how much can you sell a cookbook for. We are a large school of about 750 students. We are currently running our wrapping paper sale and our next event is the holiday boutique. We need another fundraiser. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks
