First things first get a couple of men to co-chair... If you want men involved you need other men to drag them into the meeting. Look around find someone that is well involved in the community, when you ask him to chair make sure they understand the commitment but also offer to do some of the secretary work for them the first year.....

justme,
If your organization is non-profit, capitalize on that fact. Stress that donors/sponsors can deduct their funds/prizes to the max extent of the tax laws.

Here's a few tips:

1. Seek sponsorship for each hole (18), plus a sponsor for the 19th Hole (refreshments and banquet). Most of your $$ will come from this source, so plan appropriately. Depending on your location and affluence level, $300-$5000 can be charged per hole; multiple sponsors per hole is permissible.

2. Most tournaments offer pretty decent prizes; I have seen vacations, car leases, electronics, etc. Either get them donated or include their cost in the participation fees.

3. Include an awards banquet with a quality meal; this banquet need not be at the golf course if cost is high; solicit prices from several sources.

4. Negotiate greens fees with several courses if possible. Also, your start time will influence cost; starting in early afternoon will be cheaper than early morning.

5. If including the kids in the event, sell the complete father/child package including prizes and dinners at one price.

6. At a few holes, offer special prizes such as "closest to the hole" (a par 3), and "longest drive" (a straight par 5).

I haven't done one of these but the first that comes to mind is to call your area golf courses to see what kind of tournament you can arrange and how to make if a fundraiser for your group. Many service groups do this and make big bucks but they also charge big bucks! Ask for the events cordnator or see if you can e-mail the golf course if you are in a "cold" part of the states. Don't limit to the fall, see if you can get an early summer date so you can enjoy your summer!

I hope you will find a cordnator that will not only be able to guide you through this but have great ideas for you!!
