Middle School Fundraising Ideas

The dance idea is good! At our grade school, we had a Chili/Bingo night- everyone of all ages had fun! The school district made the chili for us, as well as cinnamon rolls and cookies, and their prices were very reasonable! You could also have a silent auction of "nice white elephant" items- wouldn't cost much! One man's junk is another man's treasure, I believe is the saying. The same school, the year after I was PTO Pres. and graduated, had a "Sock Hop" with popcorn, pop, and peanuts. They also had a silent auction of some new, donated items. They made lots of money, and kids and parents had fun together! The promotion of "FAMILY time is VERY important! You could also have a 'used book fair', or ask each student to donate one new book, $5 value, and then have a silent auction for them! This would also promote READING as an important hobby! Also, some companies will match funds with their employees children's fundraisers. Worth checking into. I believe SBC does! Good luck! We sell Value Cards at the high school, band sells fresh fruit, and makes $$$. We also have a cookie sale early in Dec.-- priced by the pound!

At our middle school we raise more than $10,000 with grade level dance/game nights. We sell a ticket for $15, which includes a school spirit t-shirt (cost $3) and we serve refreshments (donated) also, we open the concession stand for purchases. We have several dances each school year and no one complains about the $15 price tag. They all have fun and are supervised. The dance/game starts when school ends, so parents don't have to pick them up until 7 or 8 pm (depends on the grade level).
Another good one for us is selling batteries, AA, AAA, C, 9V, etc. I don't think I can mention who we use, but we raised $17,000 easily. Every one needs batteries! Right?? Search for battery fundraiser and I bet you can find the reputable company that we use. Good luck!

Serendipity,

LOVE the idea of pre-selling car washes!! I am going to steal that one. We need a big fundraiser for our athletic association and I think that will work!

My 2 cents on the cell phone fundraiser...I just can't help myself :D

I agree Pottsville Mom....in that it might be okay at the begining but after that there will not be a steady influx of phones coming in.

We live in a fairly affluent area here and everyone has cell phones, but for a few years now the police department has been collecting them for local battered womens shelters...So for us anyone who has had them laying around has given them to the police dept.

Our middle school does a very successful car wash on a Saturday afternoon. They Pre-sell tickets as well as allow you to pay on that day. Pre-selling the tickets is great because many people will buy the tickets to support the school, but not actually show up to have their car washed!

My Step daughters middle school did special nights once a month on Friday nights for the kids. Each Friday night would be different, whether it was games, a movie, a DJ. These were not family nights, they were just for the kids. They charged $5 a kid which some went to cover costs and the rest was profit. It was great for just for getting the kids off the street and giving them somewhere to go on a Friday night.

Sorry Greg, but you have only posted a few times and about this subject.

I would think the beginning collection would be good. People have these setting at home with nothing to do with them. But after that, what? I would think the exchange rate would not be that much. How much are you getting for the cellphones? Do they take all kinds, analog and digital?

This might be a new addition like printer cartridges, but I can't see there ever being the volume. I go through a printer cartridge every two weeks. I go through a cell phone every 2 years.
