Scholastic Book Fair

Hi!!! I love Scholastic Book Fairs. They really are easy. They send you a planning kit with step by step instructions. Call your rep. to see if there will be a workshop in your area. I've done 5 so far & each one keeps getting better. At my old school (it closed), profits rose after pto (ok, I) took it over. At my knew school, I asked if I could do the bookfair. They were more than happy to say yes. I ended up tripling our sales. In previous yrs. they had it open from 10-2. What I call unfriendly hours. I had it open from 8:30-3:30 so parents dropping/picking kids up could come in. I sent out a volunteer time sheet about 3 weeks ahead of time, & again about 1 1/2 weeks. Then a few days before I sent home a note reminding each volunteer the days & times they signed up for. Have fun decorating with the themes. If you'd like to see the volunteer letter just e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
It really is easy. Usually it was myself & one other person pulling it off. Good Luck & Have FUN!!!

Over the years the school has run the book fairs with :(results. The last couple weeks I was able to talk the new Exec. Director and Media Asst. to let the PTO run the bookfair one night. Friday night we took over at 4:30 until 8:00 and we did AWESOME! Over $500 in sales, $500 he wouldn't have made for the library if he closed at 4:00 as originaly planned.

Okay, maybe it's the smell of victory, maybe it's my feeling of winning an argument but the VP and I are seriously talking about taking over this fundraiser, the money still goes to the library, it's that the PTO woould do the "work". We have shared this with the Director and the Principal that is the media asst. "boss"- we need to tell the media asst. My question is (I'll figure the other stuff out because we aren't even sure if this guy will be back next year) when do you start schedualing for next year (2006-07) and how much did I just take on?!

I love our new library and started my volunteer career with the school by helping build the library in 1999. It pained me greatly to hear the asst. to tell me raising funds for the library is not a priority then ask the PTO for money. Also the teachers love Scholastic and look forward to the fair but due to poor communication etc, the fair last year barely broke $1000 and that was fine with him.  :(

okay, sorry....besides the meeting, what else do I need to think about!
