We did the same thing as ptarenagade at our carnival. With everything you have to do regarding a carnival you really want to keep it as simple as possible. Plus if you run out of tickets its much easier to run to the store to pick up more.
JHB I would love a copy of your ticket design. Also loved the idea of stamping a generic roll. I have a few months to figure it out, but would love to get this out of the way so I can concentrate on the bigger things.
If you need a special ticket for particular items, food, etc, here's what we did - personalize the generic $2/roll tickets with a rubber stamp and a rainbow (or other distinctive) stamp pad. Just pass out a printed sheet to the appropriate table(s) with a copy of "their" stamp. Saves time at the ticket-buying table too- the cashier just stamps needed tickets as she goes!
Depending on how many tickets you plan to use, that's a LOT of cutting and trimming. Carnivals can use thousands of tickets. Are you sure you wouldn't just rather order a more creative set? They range $3-$5 per roll of 2000. Here are a few sites.
If you are talking about lower volume tickets, like you'd use for a jar drawing, then I typically just use a business card template and design my own. Prints 10 per page. I'll send you one if you email is listed in your profile. We keep ours pretty simply, but you can add clipart or logos or slogans if you want.
Does anyone have a ticket design they could share with me? We are wanting to do our own for the carnival this year and I haven't really found one I like yet. I am soooo design illiterate. I am also looking for a free template website that will allow me to design my own flyers and brochures.
