QUESTION...Donation option instead of selling

17 years 9 months ago #84151 by njmom
I don't have a list of companies that match donations but just let your families know to check with thieir employer. In our area, we have many parents that work in the pharmaceutical, financial and telecommunications fields and most of those companies offer to match anything over $25.

Wal-Mart does. I don't know of any other.

I am sooo jealous of all of you who can pull this off. We do not do this as the families at our school could not afford this. Also, another school in our community does this and you should have heard the parents writing into the paper complaining...they only asked for $5 individual or $7 for family donation. Like I said, we haven't asked.

njmom (or anyone else who knows) can you share (or email me) the companies that offer matching opportunities? There might be employees at our school that don't even know this exists and I would love to be able to tap into that!

Replied by <beignets&coffee> on topic RE: QUESTION...Donation option instead of selling
in addition to raffles for small prizes or (donated!)tix to local establishements, etc (ie if donation is received by the cut off date) we offer the donators (at specific $$$ levels) free advertising in the school directory.
it works well, the system, but note you have to be 501c3 in order to have the donations be tax dedcutible.
and it saves many many wo/man hours. if one were to add the time up the volunteers spend organizing and disributing hte catalog or cookie dough sales & goods, vs end returns to the school, makes the donation way sensible, and all those hours can be spent doing something other for the shcool and kids.
it doesnt mean we dont do fun fairs and the like, but their main purpose is FUN and not FUNDS.

Thanks for all of your great ideas. Lucella is correct when she says that the school can control what we sell when we use the kids to sell it. We have looked into several alternatives and we just signed on with Tom Wat. We are hoping to make it as successful as KB has been for us, but there is more we have to do on our own with this program. I'll let you all know how it turns out. Again, thanks for your ideas I found many that I would like to implement.

Boosterprez - would you forward a copy of your "pitch packet" please. The idea of donations instead of selling is long overdue!
