Residual Fundraisers?

I was thinking about approaching our schools about a residual website fundraiser in which the school would purchase a website and give the community the opportunity to purchase websites under them for residual income. Since they can be used for business or personal I was thinking about how they could be used by people associated with the school. Business use goes without saying, but personal use could be for family websites to keep in touch and maybe a family website for parental control when it comes to the internet. Maybe a page per child in the family with all of their favorite places to visit. How do you think this would go over?

We do this with TARGET credit cards, Food Lion MVP cards.. Also you can do it with VA Diner peanuts--set up an account have people order online and they send you a check once a quarter. web page

That sounds a little bit like our grocery store loyalty card...we get a check every month, but can never be exactly sure how much it will be. That's the tricky part about depending on this type of fundraiser. You can't really budget for this income unless you've done it long enough that you have some history to rely on. And since the income is spread over the year, you dont' get a big in flux at one time. I wouldn't want to have to base our whole year on this type of fundraising, but it can definately supplement the coffers.

Exactly. This is something that you would set up and do besides your regular fundraisers. Since there is usually less work involved in this type of fundraiser then it is not that difficult to set up and keep running so you are not doing tons of extra work and you are still bringing in extra money for the school than you normally would. Just start it up and it goes on autopilot. I recommend that in a school situation that you do a once a year campaign by sending home info about it and letting people set themselves up or setting up a one night presentation about the fundraiser. It can be a kid of "pep rally" for those who have been in it before and an introduction to the new parents in the school.

What is your definition of a "residual fundraiser"?

A residual fundraiser is one that you do the work one time, or with a school situation one time a year, to gain income that comes in monthly as long as the participants keep the service. The school earns a % of the service cost each month. The PTO/PTA would know that they have money coming in on a regular basis. The only thing they don't know is exactly how much until they get paid. Sometimes fundraisers like this can grow bigger than expected because with some there are ways to refer other people into the service and the organization gets paid for those referrals down to a certain point. Sometimes it is 3 levels down, sometimes it is 4 levels down, and sometimes it is 5 levels down. It kind of grows a life of it's own.

We are looking at a residual fundrasier at our school in Atlanta. This company provides fliers for us, and the kids sell custom pre-paid calling cards (with school mascot), for a one time cut for the PTO and DSL at 8 different speeds for residual. The checks are monthly for as long as any user has the service.

We think it will work well as we can reach people who would never buy candy or gift wrap. We are getting the most interest from people in the neighborhood who don't have children.
