Alcohol at Fundraisers

We are a dry county full of Baptists, ha ha. So if we even tried that it would not go over well at all. The majority of the county's around us are dry also(we have one neighoring wet county out of 5). Yes, I am from KY, home of KY Bourbon and KY Moonshine.

Our kids aren't even allowed to wear hats or clothing of any kind that advertise for alchohol or tobacco, so we shy away from even asking monetary donations from places that specialize in those products.

At the adult evening auction event, we have a cash bar. State liquor license for an event like that cost $5. We only have beer and wine, it doesn't make lot of money, maybe 125 people at the event, we made $150 profit from the bar.

We aren't having alcohol this year, we have a lot of ethnic and religious diversity in our school and have a number of families uncomfortable with it. We are doing a family event instead.

Ooooh, opening a can of worms, I would think!

We are a private school in Venezuela. At our annual silent auction we have a Men's Night Out basket with a bottle of Scotch and a Pamper Me basket with a bottle of wine. This has never been questioned and the alcohol is taken home unopened! But because our school is a drug/alcohol/tobacco free school we are never allowed to serve alcohol at any of our on-campus functions whether they are "adult only" or not. It's part of our school policy. Now when we have functions off the school grounds we can have alcohol. I would think public schools in the states would not allow alcohol on campus, but the private schools would have their own individual policies. I been to many Catholic and Episcopal school functions where beer and wine were served.

How many organizations here sell or give away alcohol at PTO fundraisers? What type of resistance is involved? Are the fundraisers held on school property? In what region of the country are you located?

Sorry so many questions. I've just read on here where several offer cash bars at auctions and parent only activities. I'm wondering about the amount of money it brings in and if its worth the related issues that come from having a cash bar.
