Thank You! That helps a lot and makes a lot of sence. I appreciate your time for helping me with this cause.

In getting someone to offer a donation, you first have to first convince the donee to believe that there is a good reason for them to offer a donation, i.e., Why should they support Your Cause?

While my experience is associated with donations for auctions, it's still pretty much the same scenerio.

I would suggest that your primary level of seeking donations would be from the parents, if they are merchants, they may offer some of their merchandise, and if they are not merchants, they might offer something they either make or personally buy and donate.

Some of the best auction items I have sold for schools are not new merchandise, but things like a Beach House for a weekend (when the donor is not going to use it), or a "Day In the Life" like a day with a principle or mayor or newsroom, etc.

Another Great type of item is something that the kids are involved in creating themselves, like quilts that each of them make a panel for.

So in regards to your question about the letters.....the main thing is with the letters, is that you have to reach the potential donor's hearts with your cause. You need to explain your need for a donation that will appeal to them in a way that they feel a need to respond. Your goals have to also be a fit with their personal goals Your need for requesting a donation has to match their need to share with your organization or the community.

It is not enough for you to "promise" them publicity for their business. Many will not donate for that reason because if one organizaion publicizes their donation, they will be overwhelmed with requests from other similar organiztions for donations.

I hope this provides you with some insights.......

letters for donations for Family Fun Fest was created by imported_hornet
Hi, I am the new president this year and I was wondering if any one had any suggestions on how to write a letter to the businesses around here to ask for donations for our Family Fun Fest we are having in May. What do you ask for besides coupons? I need to write a letter and I'm not sure how to word it right. I'd appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks!
