I can tell you it's happened at our school (you have to be careful what info you offer the Principal).
I have been doing skate parties for the students for 5 years with the PTO earning $1.25 for each skater. The Principal (aka Doc) asked me about the company so I invited her to a luncheon I was going to. Next thing I know she is setting up feild trips to the rink and asking how this can be made a fundraiser (last time I leave for the restroom! lol). THe first set of feild trips was the same week as my schedualed party! UGH! Now supposedly the PTO will be getting the checks from all this but you and I both know how long we can hold our breathe to figure this one out! The most fusterating part, was when there was an issue or a question Doc was telling parents to call me! SHe set the field trips up!

I am planning to met with Doc before the next set of feild trips, maybe you can offer a greaaaat big pizza to the class that does the best BUT not advertise it to the kids, just inform the parents. Will you be doing the improvments this Spring with the funds raised? this really sounds like a matter or who has the better marketing skills? Also if parents know exactly what the PTO has planned their maybe some more willing to give the yearbook a quarter and your group $1.25. It could happen........no monkeys flying, it could happen! Help!!!

We had a very successful penny drive last year for our elementary school. The funds went to the library. This year we are doing it again(in February) and the funds are going to playground enhancement. This was all discussed at our first meeting. We were approached by the Yearbook staff to borrow our idea for November and have a penny drive for the Yearbook to raise funds so that no students have to pay for yearbooks.

The yearbooks are being created by the high school in our small district and they want to include our K-6 students in it as long as they can generate funds to pay for it.

I was approached in Sept about the idea and I said that I thought it would better to plan a different type of fundraiser because our students are already saving their pennies for our's in Feb.
They said they would try something else and I thought that was the end of it. Today they asked to borrow our containers for pennies as they were going to go ahead and do their fundraiser anyway.

By the way, they do not participate in any way in our PTC. They do not attend meetings and no one asked whether or not we even want our students in the yearbook. We should have been asked.

Any suggestions on how not to look ungreatful while still saving our pennies for our playground.
