In NH we celebrate "NH School Volunteer Week"; NEXT week so we have a few things slated for our school of over 700 students with 2 Volunteer Coordinators working on the project.
First we schedule a Volunteer Tea on the school calender. Our Principal takes care of the coffee and goodies and we do the "gifts" and decorations and send home an invitation to all parents. It's up to them to determine if they are a "volunteer".(yes we actually have a volunteer budget)
Second we notify the teachers we will provide a little gift for their gift giving needs if they let us know how many volunteers they use. We produce cards "to my special volunteer" and attach the gift and the teachers simply address them, sign them and send them home with the children. Last year it was a roll of livesaves with the card saying "... you're my lifsaver!"
Third and I think last we have created (generic)certificates to hand out to all who attend the Tea (we don't expect more than 30 to attend though we have many more volunteers) and will attach this years gift; letting them know they APPRECIATED!
Hope this helps...

we also are a K-5 school, probably close to 700 kids, and in terms of the pta, only a handful of volunteers. I would like to recognise ALL of our volunteers, from the room mom's to the copying people. The PTA chair people tend to get recognised a lot, but these other volunteers seem to fall by the wayside. My goal as president basically was to get as many volunteers as possible, I really didn't care what they were volunteering for, as long as the parents got into the school. I'm thinking about certificates or something like that, maybe a little goodie bag with a poem or something..... any suggestions? thanks, maggie

Our K-6 school of 750 kids only have a luncheon for the Teachers on one day. The school district pays for a small gift.

Hi! I am co pres. at a K-8 school of 100. My question is if you only have 4 to 5 people that are with the PTO, and we are the only ones that volunteer at the school except during class room parties, do you still do a week like we do for the teachers? I would love to but I feel it would be strange giving myself little treats through out the week.
What do you all think?
