In serious need for 80's party ideas

Thanks for all the responses. I think I've got a few ideas now. I'm thinking about a Pac-Man cake walk and maybe have the children get their hair sprayed in neon colors. Does anyone know where you can get the hairspray at a reasonable price?

Thanks again

do you have VH1? They have a show on right now about each year in the 80's. Usually a few years a covered each Sat and Sun night. That will give you some tips.

If you have a game area, you can't leave out rubix cubes, I think you can still buy them.

The movie "The Wedding Singing" is also a HUGE example of poor 80's fashion HA HA!! Ahhww the 80's a decade of preppy, Madonna whannabes, Cyndi Lauper followers, WHAM!, men wearing pink, Miami Vice, Prince, Valley girls...

You need ideas, open up some yearbooks from then! How do you think we honestly know our parents really wore those horn rimmed glasses and hair greased up or pilled so high it's amazing they don't have neck issues!!! I used this a theme for a skate party and it was a huge hit!! Have fun with this and good luck!!

I grew up in the 80's. Here are some movies to go by: The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science (anything with Molly Ringwald). Michael Jackson was big (the red leather jackets with all of the zippers and black penny loafers with white shiny socks - the moonwalk), so was Madonna (lace gloves and jelly bracelets). Pat Benetar, leg warmers. I think Charlie's Angels was more seventies. Disco was out. Punk was in. I always watched Miami Vice, Cosby and The A-Team. breakdancing was very popular. Techno music was getting it's start, i.e. Devo. Let me know if you need more.
We just had a 50's sock hop and instead of buying posters, I bought a bunch of 50's themed calendars (50% off right now) and cut the pictures off and used those as posters. It looked great and saved a lot of money. We ended up with 99 posters for $50.

Trivial Pursuit was a popular game in the 80's...same with Pictionary. Maybe a game area? Or have a game board (ditto) and they have different bits of information they have to uncover or re-discover from the 80's--there can be posters or 4" x 18" strips of paper around the gym (or meeting area) with statements from the 80's that would fill in the blanks for the Trivia Pursuit part of the game.
Other things from the 80's--see www.80s.com/default.html

Have fun!

Michele
