Owning the school vending machines

We used to sell snacks out of the PTA room for years...Going to Costco (Club W/h) loading up our vans and then unloading...YIKES IT WAS WAY TOO MUCH WORK!!

Now our PTA uses a vending machine company who stocks the machines daily.(check your yellow pages) Got the ok from our principal and made sure the vending company was approved by the NYC DOE Nutrition Guidelines on snacks. We get a commission on sales...we made close to 5k without lifting a finger!

The drink machines in the work room at the elementary goes for office supplies etc. The school runs this. The new principal raised the prices from .35 to .50 when she came in. With all the budget cuts in the last few years it probably helped alot.

Our school does the vending part. That is ok because we are in control. Our sec. of school takes care of it. The money goes to help the 8th grade on their six flags trip end of year. Soda is done by soda company dont make much off them except getting upset all the time.(contract almost over) I would say if you have some one able to do it. GO for it. Easier and more money to you. But remember not to mark price up sky high keep it resonable.

GOOD luck

Hi!

Our PTO has been looking into purchasing vending machines to replace the ones that are currently in our school. The idea is we can stock them and make the money instead of the vending company making the money. These are not junk food vending machines. The only machine the kids have access to is one that sells water, gatorade, & juice. The teachers lounge also has a soda machine (the kids have no access to this machine).

My question is has anyone else out there done this and if so what is your experience with it? Pros? Cons? Thanks!
