Thanks C. Brooks and pwalther!! I guess my main question is about having vendors and what to charge them for a spot. I just wish I could remember who did this at my daughter's school when she was in first grade (six years ago and another state!)

Would it be outragous to ask for a % and not charge for the space or charge and ask a %. Also do you keep it to vendors with items to sell or (another idea) like invite the local fire dept to talk about car seats ( our state just changed their requirements) and vendors that offer a service?

We are K-12 with about 1,500 families and that would be the other issue, where to have it but we can plan for spring. Also we are in a small community surronded by larger ("The Burbs") so I really think we can get traffic.

I like the picture idea....maybe we could do something with the Easter Bunny!!

This will be my second year doing a craft fair for our school. We charge per booth ($25 for a 5 x 10 and $40 for a 10 x 10) and we do not take any of their sales. We also sell breakfast items (coffee, donuts, muffins, etc...) and serve a simple lunch (mostly for the vendors and volunteers) but last year we sold 75 spaghetti lunches. We have a Dad who is a fireman and has a Santa suit so we did pictures with Santa on the fire engine. One of our Mom's was kind enough to bring her laptop, printer and digital camera. There are lots of other "side" things you can do...but I wanted to take it gradually.

What I did since we had crafters and vendors, I tried to seperate the two.........one aisle was just crafters and another aisle was just vendors. That way if people came just for crafts then they could find all of them in that section. The previous chairman would only allow crafters to buy booth space. We didn't have it for several years and then I brought it back last year.

Okay, enough rambling. Hopefully I answered your questions.

I wanted to do this sort of thing for the Holidays one year. I talked to a local florist who has set up in several counties and she said usually the schools let them set up and the school kept a % of what was made.

We have a county craft fair. Actually a lot of our school clubs get in on this too. If I am not mistaken there is a $25.00 charge per booth and people keep what they make. I looked in on that too.

I suppose you need to look at how many participants you expect and find out which way is best. I think doing both would be a little much unless you have a large school or make it a community effort.

My Prez and I were talking about different events we could do and a craft fair was brought up. We both loved the idea BUT I need help with how or what kind of contract do you ask participates to sign and if for example a Pampered Chef person hasa table do you ask them for a percent of their sales AND charge them for the space? ....?????

Also, does the PTO sell refreshments (coffee, soda, baked goods) during the event?

You think sitting together for five hours we would have gotten this figured out, approved, and flyers ready but parents kept talking to us! (Oh trust me after the last few years, it's a GOOD thing!! )

Thanks all!!!
