Hello! We have a Walk-A-Thon yearly and they are quite successful in raising a good amount of money for little effort. We have it March or April and during the childrens' regular gym classes. Sponsor sheets are sent home a week or two in advance and the children get either per lap amounts or a set amount per sponsor. On the day of the event we have CD player in the gym, play music and walk 50 laps around the gym with each class all day, the younger kids do 25 laps. Parents can also volunteer to walk with their childrens class. We have cookies and juice sent in and/or donated (ck. your local groc. store) for the kids after they do their laps. The children then collect from their sponsors and the money is due on or before a set date. The top three children to bring the largest amount are awarded a "big" prize and everyone else who rasies $10.00 or more gets a prize. Although we have one HUGH advantage for this fund raiser(the wonderful and generous couple who plan, walk, collect and count all funds, also provide the prizes. The top three usually win a bike, scooter or skateboard. They also donate most of the other prizes, which are watches, cameras, basket and footballs, etc. that they mostly receive through their convenience store as promotional items)prizes could be donated through local business's and can consist of whatever you choose. Our $10.00 to $15.00 raisers won a $2.00 gift certificate to the school store. We are K-6, have about 150 students and usually raise roughly $1200.00, and with very little effort on ours or the parent's part. Of course we offer and help our wonderful couple in any way we can. Also it's importsant to get the kids excited, let ehm know it's coming up, what the prizes are and what the funds rasied will be going towards or for. Sorry this is so long. Good Luck! Keep the the "FUN" in fund raising. Kidsfirst
