silent auction help

I was the chair for our P.T.O's first auction last year. We had planned to do a silent, as well as live auction. I had gotten a local auctioneer to agree to donate his time and space for the auction early on in the planning stages. He convinced me to do away with the silent auction because he thought he could get higher bids during the live auction. Our auction was held at the end of our community day when most people are done with their giving for the day and retire home. We had 70 attendees and grossed nearly $9,000. I was so glad that the auctioneer steered me away from the silent auction because there was no way that our items would have gotten the bids they generated without his energy. We had only four volunteers that worked on our auction and we were very happy with the outcome.
