Thanks everyone! I had just about given-up because there had been no responses for a while. I think I'll look into renting the big screen t.v. Also, I had no idea about the license. Thanks again Mrs.p

if you look under "other group showings" it will lead you to the area with the one time usage. You can call the 800 number and they send a catalog with the movies and prices. They also have alot of the "older" (from my generation) on 16mm and 35mm, so if your school has the old reel-to-reel projectors, that might be a consideration.

Thank you for the information on SWANK. I will look into that!

The school uses a projector to show a special slide show set to music on a CD for the 5th graduation every year. I don't know what kind of projector it is, or if it was hooked up to a computer. (?) Last year they projected it on the wall because there was some trouble with the screen or something. Since the wall is slightly more than off-white, it wasn't as bright as on the screen. As long as we're able to use the screen, it should be great!

We tried the LCD projector, but it wasn't bright enough for our auditorium.
Now we use a big screen TV from Rent-a-Center. It's costs $130,(that's a discounted price-it is usually $180) but we easily make that back with $1 admission. We always break even on the movie nights and they have been getting more popular each time.
We also stress that this is a family event and children will not be permitted without adult supervision.
We actually found it easier to do in our cafeteria because of the way it is setup, and then there is no worry about the precious gym floor. Kids bring bean bag chairs, blankets and pillows, and some even come in their jammies! It's been alot of fun as this was our first year, and we do plan on doing it next year also.

Also, if you are only planning on doing it once or twice, check out SWANK for a one time license and movie rental. It will be cheaper if you don't want to purchase the site license for the entire year(depending on your enrollment). Swank is a parent company of Movie Licensing Inc.

Have fun, and see if rent a center will cut you a deal.

I don't know about the a/v equipment, but I also want to plan a movie night. Until today, when I mentioned it to our technology department, I had never heard of Copyright infringement. You will need a Movie Puplic Performance Site License for this event - whether or not you charge admission. Check out www.movlic.com/whyschool.html for more information.
