You know, you can always go to a good local dollar store to get some of those items that the santa companies sell for $2-$3 each-negotiate a discount to say, .95 cents and no sales tax. There are places to get decent jewelry for .50/$1 per piece, and order a catalog (the FULL one, not just the seasonal) from rhode island novelty ( www.rinovelty.com / 800-528-5599-They've got the best prices I've found on the small toys (25 die cast cars in a gift box $2). Anyhow, I could make one post a mile long BUT... Email me if anyone wants more tips - I'd love to help!

I would also be interested in whatever information you can give us. We ran our first shop this year and it was a big hit, but would like to see what our "other options" are. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Thanks.

Our school used Fun Services this year and made $1100.00. We mainly did it as a service, not a fundraiser, but we wanted to make it worth our while. We used a mark up of 25%, which included 7% tax for our county. I cannot imagine having to do all of the pricing and purchasing ourselves. Isn't it a lot of work to do like that? We have 750 students at our school.

Serendipity---wow i just checked out that website and it looks great. Last year we used a company and it was alot of work for very little income. So we have decided that we are gonna handle all the buying and things for the next santa shoppe and this site looks wonderful. Only downfall i saw is it looks like they only take credit cards--our pto does not have a credit card--but then again maybe i could place it on mine and the pto could reimburse me. You have used this company--right? Is shipping pretty quick---we ran out of items a few times at our last one and reordering was awful. Anyways thanks again.

For those looking to run their own shops....Accessories palace Accessoriespalace.com/ is a great place to order from. Just one of the many great items they sell are all the pens that say #1 Dad, #1 Mom, #1 Grandma, & # 1 Grandma. They cost about $0.63 a piece. All you need is $150 minimun order, you do not pay tax or a handling fee. Shipping is standard and comes to about 5 cents an item so that would make each pen 68 Cents. We sold them in the store for $1.50 each. A few years ago when we used a vendor, she sold the same pens for $3.00.

When you do it yourself you can control the quality & the price of the items you sell. You will make more money for your organization (which in turn goes back to the kids). It also makes the prices cheaper which is better for the parents. It is a win-win situation.

Please email me your resources and tips. We just used Fun Services this year and felt we worked too hard for a little money. It was a good idea to use them since this was our first time, but I think we can find better stuff at cheaper prices for our kids.
Thanks so much!
