Market Day--What's Your Average? Any Tips for Success?

We make about $500 per month and only have 150 kids in our school. We spend 1 hour unloading truck and organizing and in that hour we usually start filling orders. The 2nd hour is people picking up their foods. Depending on the amount of volunteers, sometimes we have everything packed, sometimes the people pickin up their food pack their own.

What items do you all like the best? I need to place my next order soon and would love to hear what you recommend. I've placed 2 orders so far and each one was for over $200. I thought my husband would kill me but he's enjoying the sampling going on over here at my house!

I'll be honest...I really think Market Day is a pain in the ...But, we do profit between $350-$450 per month, depending on the time of year. It all adds up to a lot of work and nearly $4,000 of income. We have had problems getting people to pick up their order, even when they are pre-paid. We eventually had to buy an additional freezer to store the product that wasn't picked up right away. Of course, the teachers love having the freezer, because they don't have to come back to the school that evening anymore to pick up their orders. We store there orders in the freezer and let them take it home afterschool the next day. Works out just fine...but, it's a pain and a lot of man hours to unload the truck, organize the product, help everyone fill orders, etc.

Market Day is quality frozen food. They have everything from boneless chicken breasts, ranch steaks, excellent vegetables, resturant quality soups to lunch box stuffers like string cheese, yogurt, individually wrapped carrot cake and beverages. They had an excellent parmesan crap and shrimp dip that was really good. They rotate their offerings by season so what's available in Sept, might not be there in March. Not the staples but the desserts and soups, etc.

A lot of the stuff is what you would get at BJ's, Costco, or Sam's Club but some are things I've only seen at Market Day. Home base is Illinois. You can check them out on their website at www.marketday.com. Here are the states that have MD: Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana,Iowa, Kentucky,Maryland,Michigan,Missouri New Jersey, North Carolina,Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Little cut and paste from their website.

Their overall prices are more then the grocery store, but not much. And to borrow the line from the Wendy's commercial, no, I am not an offical spokesperson! :D

Hi Kmamom! We have been doing Market Day for sometime now. We have 300 in our school and we make on average of $150 - $200 a month.

It is one of those things that not everyone orders, but the people who do order it love it!
We also have a handful of teachers who always order every month.

We have a woman who loves to chair this so even though were not making a windfall it still puts $1,500 - $2,000 a year in the bank and we have someone who happily does all the work. We also have some families from the middle school whom order from us as it is not available in their school.
