1st Day of school

This year we are trying something new. At the newcomer's picnic before school starts the children will receive a storybook. On the first day the parents are going to receive a survival packet which will include some of the poems posted already. We are also having a little snack for the parents while the children take their first bus ride. On the second day when the child arrives by themselves they will each receive a carnation for their parents with a note that says "Thanks for helping me get to kindergarten and I love you very much" I hope that this idea helps.

PTA/PTO Survival Kit

I give these things to you to help you not to loose sight of the real
reason for your involvement - CHILDREN.

A Band Aid to heal hurts;
A balloon to remember to celebrate your accomplishments;
A bit of confetti to remind you to have fun!
A file to smooth rough edges;
A stick of gum to remind you to stick with it!
A packet of seeds for continued growth;
A Hershey's Kiss to remind you that you are loved;
A match to light your fire when you are burned out;
A paper clip to help hold things together;
A pencil so you can list your blessings;
A pin to remind you to stay sharp;
A rubber band for flexibility;
A Smartie pkg to help you on those days when you don't feel so smart;
A Starburst to give you a burst of energy on the days you don't have any;
A Snicker's Bar to remind you to take time and laugh;
A piece of string to help tie up loose ends;
A Tootsie Roll to remind you not to BITE OFF more than you can chew;
A tissue or two: one for you and one for a friend when you need to have a good cry;
A toothpick for a reminder not to be picky;
A pennie as a reminder to share PTA's wealth of information and

Last, but not least, a recipe to help you on those busy PTA nights:

I think there have been a few postings like that. There's one under "Free For All" Called "Volunteer Survival Kit" last updated 2/11.

I'll see if copying a link here will work. But you can navigate to it by changing the toggle above the message list from "Last 45 days" to "last year". And notice at the bottom of the list you may have page numbers if the new list exceeds one screenful.
