That's alot of money for door to door sales! Congrats on the good work. We don't do any kind of sales of this nature. We are a much smaller school, and we stick to carnivals, auctions, and other community event fundraisers. Doing the math, we will raise about the same amount of money, per student, with our carnival this year. Most of the carnival events/staff are donated, so the profit is almost all ours. The students, staff and other friends and families buy tickets and it's a huge event. We will eventually get the community more involved, but currently we keep it to those with a direct interest in the school itself.
We will have an auction this year, as well, and expect to raise $25,000 with that, and we have other smaller events, monthly, that raise about $200.00 - $300.00 each month.
What exactly was your fundraiser? Was it alot of work? We have tried some of these types of fundraising, and have found that the work is so much compared to the work we put into our carnival, etc., so we have basically given up on the sales kind of fundraisers...but I am always looking for THE one that will convince me to try again.
What was your sale if it was not door to door. How much did the prize mega event cost the PTO? We are a school of 250-260 students and make about $10,000 on wrapping paper sales but we are always looking for new things.
I know with the way this world is today door-to-door fundraising is not highly recommended, HOWEVER!...We just completed our fall fundraiser and it was such a success that we are (hopefully) through with the door-to-door product sales! WE are a k-5 elem. with aprox 240 students. Only 80 kids didn't sell and we were able to raise PROFIT: $11,200! We were SOOO excited! This is a record for our school! Typical profit in the past has been....$5000, maybe!
What made this one so successful...the MEGA EVENT! Every kid that sold 15 items gets to attend this event which includes 9 giant inflatable games and a money wheel to be spun by those who sold over 20 items. ($$ amounts are $2,$5,$10,$20) Now PTO is financially in a position to kick off our scrip fundraising program!
