I agree, poll your parents with the choices.

But are there any other solutions? Instead of the original trip, could a different one be arranged that would fit in the budget of what was raised? Or could you bring in some really neat program and promote it as bringing a field trip to them?

Personally, if I were a parent/child, I'd probably be most receptive to a creative shift in the original proposal.

And if you are REALLY creative/thrifty, maybe a little could be saved for a few maps and globes.

Hmmmm, this is a difficult situation. If I had only the two choices you present, I would choose to ask the students (well, their parents...) to pay for the other half. I'd at least offer it as a choice before buying globes and maps.

Globes and maps are great but anti-climatic after anticipating a school wide field trip.

Maybe this isn't just for the PTO to decide right now. Why not send a quick note home to parents explaining the situation and allowing them to be part of the decision making process. You may be surprised to find out that many parents are not only willing to pay their child's portion but also for less fortunate classmates too.

My pto did a fundraiser to send the children on a schoolwide trip, they have never had one. We made half the money. Now the pto is split half says make the children pay so much and go on the trip, the other half says buy the globes and maps they want for the school. We have never been this bad in an argument before. On the one hand the children really tried to sell in this small town, on the other people say it is not fair if they didnt make their goal. can anyone help with some new insight........
