those all sound like great ideas, I have a suggestion to the cacti, you can use a clay pot with cabbage and cucunmbers and a few fake flowers to make these they look so cool and they
are really cheap. Here's what you need:

1. Clay flower pot
2. Raffia
3. Afew heads of cabbage
4. cucumbers
5. Toothpicks
6. Fake Flower's (which most have around the house)

I did this for a friends party and they loved them. Just a though good luck.

We had a "Camp Read Alot" night. Eveyone wore their pajamas and brought blankets. We had a fake fire and sang songs "around" it. We also listened to stories from a storyteller. Afterwards, every child was given a baggie with graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate kisses wrapped with a stirring stick (for toasting) and twine. These were to make "smores" with. We also had a book fair going on at the same time during intermissions and we made a killing in books.

Remember the 60's? My son's 3rd grade class is having a "Read-In" on Friday. Everyone has been asked to bring a blanket, a pillow and a book (or two or three...lol). It is a half day schedule (parent/teacher conferences) and this will be the day's assignment. I'm gonna join them...lol... It won't be the same as when I participated in a "Sit-In" against Viet Nam, but it will be more fun...lol... They get a couple hours of reading done, and there was a bit of a history lesson in it as well...

Cool idea! For a campfire, you could just use stacked firewood with a "fire" out of poster board...have two sets of flames and then connect them in the middle so they cross. Use bales of hay for sitting or to outline the circle. Sections of fences made out of wood or cardboard painted like wood and a few cacti here and there would sure develop the theme even futher. Sounds like such a neat idea I may just suggest that to our group!

I just saw a really cute halloween item, it looked kind of like a cauldron but had these streamers coming up the top and it glowed orange and they waved around like a fire. It was at our local Wal Mart.

We are planning a family night around our Scholastic Book Fair and the Reading Roundup theme. We hope to have songs and stories around the campfire. I have the singer/storyteller and need to come up with a fake campfire since it will be inside. Any ideas that are simple and fast? Also, any other quick western/cowboy ideas would be great. Thanks.
