scholastic book fairs

Our Media Specialist runs our book fair but we don't have a big turn out. She did ask me a few weeks ago if I knew anyone who would want to volunteer and gave her a few names. She uses this to supplement her budget or to purchase more books. I would just ask him point blank if he would like you to help him round up volunteers, unless you think he would take that wrong. Most of the time, my feet are blessed by people wanting my help and not believing their good forture for not having to beg for it!

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

Our PTO has always run the book fair at our school. I don't see how they could expect your media specialist to run the fair outside of school hours - that's not really fair. It takes lots of volunteers to run the book fair - I can't believe they wouldn't be thrilled to get the help.

There shouldn't be any reason you can't designate the money to go to the media center. Be aware, however, that if you take cash Scholastic only pays 25%. It's a lot of work for not much money.

The last few years the media center (library) has been the facilitar of this event with the PTO rounding up volunteers. Well this fall nothing was said about the event and without much fan fair the book fair happened and was very disappointing to say the least.
Not sure the whole scoop, but I do know the media specialist was overwhelmed and due to family issues, wasn't able to have it open at night like inthe past.

With that, I am starting to wonder if I should not wait for his call and just talk to the Admin about the PTO running the bookfair out right but with the understaning all funds (after expenses) benefit the media center? I don't want to offend anyone but see how fustrated he is and hope he would accept the help.

ALso I want to say something now as fundraisers for 05-06 are being looked at and I think contracts etc need to be discussed.

How do I do this???
