I just saw this item and wanted to add to my above post.

Because of the increased interest in involving children in the program, they have prepared a brochure entitled “KIDS Warm Up America!”

For a copy, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to CYCA, P.O. Box 9, Gastonia, NC 28053.

Oh, and by the way, I used the internet to refresh my personal knowledge of crochetting and sewing the squares together to make an afgan. I take along a bag and crochet hook and small scissors in the car so I can work on the squares while waiting to pick up the middle schoolers in the afternoon. I also make lots of the squares this week while sitting in the hospital after my hubby was admited for surgery. Passes the time, can be picked up and set down easily, and has a wonderful end result.

Adults may want to join this too - Just like Vanna White!

Have any of you had students participate in the KIDS WARM UP AMERICA program?

I recall seeing a story on TV a couple of yeard ago, where students and or adults taught upper level elementary studens how to knit or crochet, then they made squares, sewed them together and donated the afgan blanket to the American Red Cross for familes affect by natural disasters (flood, fire, etc.).

If you are interested in this, use google.com and type in - KIDS WARM UP AMERICA.
