Entertainment Book Sales

Lo and behold, I received a "complementary" entertainment book in the mail TODAY!! with a packet of all the wonderful things they offer.

Our area is just saturated by non-profits selling the books. It's not just schools, it's vets groups, churches, daycares. In the past, some terrific merchants had coupons, like $1 worth of gas, better travel discounts with less restrictions, more choices. I know of one person who would pump exactly $1 worth of gas and then haggle the cashier to take the coupon (amazing!).

A group of us get together at work with our E-books and "swap" coupons for stuff that is closer to our houses or for our fav places.

Personally, I hate coupons - those school cards with the itty bitty sticker coupons - forget it. I have so many discount and frequent buyer cards in my wallet, it reminds me of that Seinfeld episode, when George has that humongous wallet.

I love quick scan discount cards - something that will fit on a keychain.

If the Entertainment company could come up with a scannable key chain card or something like that, I'd BUY IT!

I just received the entertainment book at our school and have never seen this from this company before. It seems that many of you think it's a lot of work. What makes it hard to do? We need a fundraiser for our athletics dept. I was really considering this until I found this thread, now I'm not sure. Please give me more info if you have used this before.

Also, does anyone use the cards with the school logo that give you discounts with certain merchants in your area? How well does that do? Thanks!

Summer Vacation is NOT a money maker program from my understanding. I believe it is a point system. It was thrust on us by the principal. However, it is a wonderful program. The kids love the kits and the books! We bought one for our second grader and she loves it! Not cheap at $30 for kit and book, but something fun for the kids to do over the summer! We had problems only with them coming to pick them up, in that they didn't come when they said they would. I don't know why. The teachers and the office pretty much handled the entire thing. Which was nice for a change to not have to do it all!! However, it is not a good money maker, if that is what you are looking for. We looked at it more as providing a service than a fundraiser. Hope this helps. :D

Anyone out there have any info on Entertainment's Summer Vacation program? Only one mention of it on this thread and I can't find any other threads with information about this program. Is it a big money maker or should we consider doing something else. Anyone have any problems with it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

WE'VE LOST MONEY WHEN WE USED ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS ALSO. LOTS OF PRESSURE ABOUT GIFT WRAP WITH SALLY FOSTER ALSO. WE'VE TRIED TO COMPARE CATALOGS WITH OTHER COMPANIES LIKE INNISBROOK AND RED APPLE. REPS WANT TO COME TALK WITH US. SHOULD WE LET THEM? HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD REPS FROM COMPANIES COME AND PRESENT? WHAT SHOULD WE ASK THEM TO BRING? WHY DO THEY WANT A CONTRACT NOW? WOULD IT BE BETTER TO WAIT UNTIL MAY OR JUNE WHEN THE NEW BOARD IS IN TO DECIDE?

Just as a quick heads-up on this thread, there have been a couple of posts on this thread from "unregistereds" that struck me funny (folks with a business axe to grind, in my opinion) and came down. Like with any anonymous forum on the Web, be sure to take anonymous postings here with a grain of salt.

As always, thanks for jumping in...
