Recycling grocery bags

Not sure on the exact amount we raised, but it seemed like it was enough to make it worthwhile. We are still doing it. Our bags that we collected were Meijer, Kroger and Farmer Jack. I would agree with closetwriter that you need to really get the word out about this so that people know not to throw them away and have your collection box in a good location near the front entrance of the school so that the kids/parents can drop them off easily. I also try to make sure I buy the recycled bags made from the rolled bags, they are available at most dollar stores and are pretty good quality plastic lunch bags. That way, I am helping on both ends, by bringing my bags to school and also buying the finished product. Good luck with this!

Thanks for the info, Debb. Our 8th grade class is taking over this for their class trip, so I'll have about 35 rollers. Did you make much money? Is it worth all of that rolling?

You just have to make sure you have enough help to do this fundraiser, hoosiermom. The bags people turn in add up quickly and while it is not hard to roll the bags, you have to do it exactly as the company requests and it is time-consuming! It is a good job for moms/dads who work to do at night, but like I said, make sure you have several different families doing it. When my son was in kdg, I took on the chairperson duties of this job and I had my whole family rolling bags the entire year since i did not have any other help, they were not too happy with me by the end of the year!

Just found this recycling fundraiser to pass along: www.enviro-bag.com
If you have a participating grocer in your area, enviro-bag will purchase grocery bags to recycle into trash bags. Schnucks, Meijers, some Krogers sponsor. They pay $1 per pound which is about 70 bags, so it won't be a huge money maker.
However, there is no cost and there's very little work involved.
