We also ended up with lots of leftovers - we broke even on the sale, so to us, it would not be worth doing as a fundraiser again - but as a keepsake thng, sure. It was a lot of work - get yourself a good committee. Great idea about using the books as prizes! We'll have to do that!

How funny... At the beginning of this school year, I was handed 7 cookbooks from 8 years ago that the office staff had found when cleaning out a closet. I used them as door prizes (2 at a time) at 3 meetings and kept one. People were offering to buy them (these were 8 years old!)! If I am re-elected as Prez this April, I plan to run a Keepsake Cookbook next year. I will do a pre-order, but will plan on having extras for door prizes, volunteer gifts, etc. Those 2 extra cases you have (susieq) will be snagged up with joy as doorprizes. Maybe use some of the recipes for a Staff Appreciation Luncheon. OH! My favorite recipe in ours is "Dad's Quick Fried Rice". I use it twice a week and never have to throw out leftover meats...lol... :D   :D

Do yourself a favor---Do a preorder--either by setting a price beforehand or getting deposits...otherwise like in our case you get stuck with leftovers (2 cases)

Hi -

Our cookbook feature story is at:

www.ptotoday.com/0800cookbook.html

It's full of tips and good ideas. Hope it helps. You'll also find plenty of cookbook fundraising vendors in our "Find Your Vendor" section (see link at left).

Good luck,

Tim

Hi Peggy,

We actually just sent our recipes into the publisher for our first cookbook. We are not doing ours as a fundraiser, but more of a keepsake.

There were a few discussions here a while back of the pros and cons of cookbooks. If you use the search feature and just type in cookbooks, you will come up with quite a few postings with both good and bad feedback.

I will keep you updated on how ours is going. One tip I can give you is to stress to parents that the recipes need to be legible. Our committee ended up having to copy quite a few over because they needed to be deciphered. If we can;'t read them, we can't expect the typists at the publisher to read them. Other than that, we had great participation-students and staff alike, and people were very receptive to the idea.

I'll let you know if we hit any snags!

Has anyone done a cookbook for a fundraiser? We are considering it, and would appreciate any tips or help you can offer.

Thanks in advance,
Peggy (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
