We did ours in the spring at the high school track. We feel that it was a great success. We raised about $9000. The kids collected flat donations ahead of the event. This made t-shirt ordering much easier. We had the students do drawings in art class. Then the walkathon committee chose one that best represented what we were doing the walkathon for (to raise money for our new playground). That child go to go work with a graphic artist to perfect the design for the t-shirt. We did it on a Saturday from 10-4. We also had a moon bounce donated for the kids to use on the site. We had a health and safety fair as well. Also the local youth community center did face painting. The jr and high school bands played for us at different times during the day. It was a fun and informational event. We also had a raffle at the end. For every lap walked, the kids got a ticket. We had smaller prizes, kites, balls (football, basketball, soccer balls), bicycle helmets, things like that. There were also ToysRUs $50 gift certificates for the top five fundraisers. And we randomly drew names out of those participating(one per grade level), even if they donated $2, they were in the drawing to recieve $10 TRU gift certs. It was a great deal of fun. Next year will go smoother because we will already know what we are doing. We are thinking of doing bigger and better prizes. Other than that we won't be changing a lot about the event. Hope this helps. ;)

Our school has sponsored a jog-a-thon each year and bill it as "Our only fundraiser" We have surpassed 35,000 for the last five years in funds. We have prizes for each level earned per student and top student prize is lunch in a limo with the principal. It works very well.
Good luck

We have a Fun-Run every October at our K-6 elementary school. We also get t-shirt sponsors for $250.00 each to go on the shirt. This covers the cost of the shirts for our kids(we have 145).
We have the high school art students at our neighbor school design the t-shirt logo as a contest. The student council at the elementary come up with a theme and the art students take it from there. The winning design goes on the front and the sponsors go on the back. All of the entries are displayed in our art showcase.
The students also collect sponsorships of $1.00/lap. Last year we made $3500.00 just on the lap donations. All of the money was split between the library and the art program. Last years theme was Exercise Your Mind! We had an awesome response from the high school. They cant wait for this years contest.

Last year was the first yr we attempted the walk a thon at our school.....and we officers, teachers, and parents feel it was a sucess. We raised over 9000.00! For our small school it was great. That meant not having to sell anything and share profit with some company. We asked for donations from communitity business (we put a 30.00 minimum) and the company names would be on the childrens shirts. The children then siply asked for family and friends to donate to help them acheive thier prize level. We did not do a per lap donation for the simply fact that our kids could not spend all day out walking and miss the required hours in class. So, this walking was done in their "related art" slot (p.e., library, art, etc.) We were very pleased with it and hope to make it even more fun for the kids this year with even better prized. Good Luck!

we are a small school of about 250 children k-5
we would like to rais money to renovate our school library with a walk-a-thon, but this is a first for us and we do not know where to begin or what is really involved. it would be a short distance 2, 21/2 mile walk. if anyone has info, it would help greatly.
