I just wanted to say that I thought Dottie's list was awesome-never thought about those. Also, go locally, even if you have to go face-to-face. Better for them to see a face and know that they are important enough for you to personally come to them! we find that it works great!
We are a school of 200 students and mkae at least $20,000.00 every year on our auction.

Another idea is to go to your local AAA office and get their travel books and send letters to those places. Good luck to everyone interested in an auction--if you can get the people to come it is a fun event that makes a decent amount of money!

We just had our auction last night, and we are putting together a list of what we got, and corrected addresses from Dottie's list, to post in about a week. We got about 50 positve responses from 250 national and local businesses.

You have such a phenom response,I am curious to know how many letters did you send, and did you find that you needed to go door-to-door for positive local results.

Also, for those who need lists to get started, there is a topic, 'please help. needed, business and celebrity addresses that donate.' It is in fundraising, and go directly to page 4 of the posting, and you will find Dottie's original list posted by magicmom, and then under it,you will find an extensive, current posting with addresses, and responses by dawn westburg on 3-15-06. Thanks so much Dawn!!!

The other thing to do, is to do a "search" under 'auction' under under 'fundraising.' And scroll through the 'me too's,' and occasionally, you can find some good info posted.

This is how I started in January, and I think I learned a lot about how to solicit for an auction, letter writing guides, etc. I think we got more than $4000 from the contributions that I was able to secure.

Sigh...Again with the me-too's threads.

Again, it's up to all of you, from big and small schools, parochial, private and public to do your own searching.

Again, Search for Dotties list on this website, as her list is a good place to start.

And again, no one is going to e-mail you a list. It just doesn't work like that.

Our auction is in 2 weeks. We have gotten positive responses from 314 national and local businesses. The key to our success is due to a dedicated and persistant solicitation committee, hard work and not because someone e-mailed us a list.
