Health and Wellness in our school

15 years 10 months ago #145013 by MelissaW
Thanks for the advice. In addition to the fundraiser, we were looking for ways to incorporate health and wellness into the school...getting both teachers and students involved. Has anyone done this kind of thing? Thanks for any help you can send. Melissa

I have one idea that we've started to work on...

I would imagine that you have heard of a game called Dance, Dance Revolution? This is a great game because it is fun, while also being active. We presented the idea to the physical fitness staff member (gym teacher) to fund this for her instruction.

The idea would be to purchase an overhead projector for the gym, as well as a screen. A play system would be needed as well, with the ability to play at least heads-up. Now this doesn't mean that the other students are standing around waiting for their turn. We've researched it and found that you can purchase the game mats without connection. This way every student can have a mat to be following along with, while the two at the head of the line play against each other. Once that song is over everyone shifts two spots so that the next two can be "heads-up". I'm sure you get the idea!!!

If you tried to fund something of this nature it would play right into the theme for the school year.

Good luck,
PresidentJim

For the first time, our PTO has decided to do a "theme" during the school year. We're focusing on Health and Wellness. For example, our fall fundraiser will be a fitness activity where the kids will need to find sponsors. I was wondering if anyone out there has focused on health issues in the school and what are the ways we can promote good health among the teachers & students? Of course, while still making it fun. I'd appreciate any input.
Thanks, Melissa W.
