Fundraising Money

I agree with dlf-- I would have a meeting and talk about what should be done now-- check and see what your by-laws are and go into the meeting having a copy of them on hand to reference-- and if there is nothing written, see about making a motion to form a by-law committee to go over your now by-laws and update them-- they should get voted on after review as well by the PTA as a whole. We are a PTO and I'm not sure if a PTA is run the same-- good luck!

Expose is a pretty harsh word here. The treasurer has been doing things WAY beyond their authority for the position but apparently before you came along everyone was pretty okay with it. That sort of abuse wouldn't change if you were a PTO or a PTA and that decision should be made on different factors (many of which are outlined here on the boards). I definitely think there needs to be some restructuring of the group's procedures. While I'm not a PTA member -- I'm sure their procedures don't encourage this type of management as well.

My advice is to go to the principal and PTA President with the folks that are energized and discuss the issue with them first and then work to realign the way you all do business more in line with the bylaws of the group and if not that then Robert's Rules of Order. I'm sure your group does have bylaws and I doubt seriously if the type of one man decision process is the outlined procedure.

Good thing to get this started this summer so next year can be done more in line with getting the children the money they deserve (I agree completely that teacher retirement gifts ARE NOT what PTOs raise money for).

Good Luck

We Have A Treasurer Who Had Been A Volunteer For Over 10 Years That Person Has Been Running The Pta At Our School Then I Got Involved Into The Pta And Was Misled By This Person The Treasurer Will Handle All The Money And How To Spend It No Questions Asked Then I Came In And Questioned Why Are You Deciding On How To Spend The Money Without Holding A Meeting With The Other Officers Especially The President, I Questioned The President & The President Said Its The Treasurers Decision. Then Treasurer Used The Money To Fund A Teachers Retirement Without Permission. The Reason We Allowed Fundraising Was For The Students To Benefit From This Fundraiser Not A Teacher Who Retired 2 Years Ago. But Apparently The Treasurer Who Was Allowed To Do What They Want For Years Have Been Getting Away With This Due To The Old Principal Who Gave That Person The Power To Do What They Wanted. Should We Expose The Treasure And Start A New Parernt Organization And Change From Pta To Pto
I Feel The Treasurer Should Pay Back That Money.
