Need New Snack Fundraising ideas

The school I mention is in Illinois. The Snack's committee works very closely with the Cafeteria staff. Upon rumors of restrictive nutrition guidelines the committee tried healthier treats and they were all complete failures. The guidlines that were eventually adopted did not limit PTO treats. The cafeteria recently received a Food Service Excellence Award. I don't believe they receive any outside funding and have a pretty low free/reduced lunch ratio.

Your school must not receive funding for their school lunches.

nationally, schools that receive monies for lunches, cannot sell that kind of food (hi sugar and or hi fat) or they may loose some of their funding.

at least we cant serve or sell anything that is hi sugar or hi fat, during the school day, so fruits, unbuttered popcorn or pretzels and the like, is about all the choices we have to offer.

You must not live in New Jersey. We have strict nutrition policies in our schools that must be adhered to and only the popcorn (low fat) would be able to be served here. Our kids love fruit (grapes, oranges, bananas & apples) cheese & crackers, or cake-mix cookies. Many of our parents didn't think the kids would go for fruit during lunch or our sales and we sell out every time!

At my last school, donut holes were a huge hit for treat sales. They got four for 50 cents. We usually ordered glazed, powdered and chocolate. During warm months, sno cones were a big seller for us. During cold months, it was cookies and cider or cookies and cocoa.

We had the same rule that the kids had to eat lunch first. We also said that they could only buy one treat because a) they didn't need that much and b) we'd run out before getting through all the lunch periods and the last period kids wouldn't get any.

Our school PTA sells snacks at lunch on Fridays and that is our main fundraising throughout the year. However I'm looking for different ideas and possibly more healthy snacks but am having a hard time thinking of what will work. I'm trying to get things in order for next year. Right now we alternate our snacks/special treat days as follows, ice cream, taffy apples, ice cream, and then popcorn. Now the taffy apples the kids have to take home because they won't have enough time to eat it and no children are allowed to buy a treat unless they eat their lunch.
So basically I'm looking for new things that the kids would be excited about but would also be able to eat once their lunch is finished. Any ideas you have to share would be great!

Thanks!
