Coin Collection need ideas

Love CC's ideas - Here is a trivia question to add to your list.

Q: Which University has an elephant for its mascot?

A: Tufts University - Jumbo the Elephant!

Good luck with your project!

How about a picture of an elephant along with all the wonderful info CC gave and build a pile of peanuts for your hungry elephant. Say...100 pennies = 1 peanut or something like that.

By the way, I'm talking paper peanuts, not the real thing. Don't want peanut shells everywhere!

I like your Pennies for Pachyderms name. It's catchy and educational.

How about a poster of an elephant (either a whole one or just it's head, big ears and all) whose trunk gets longer as you raise money?

The poster could include fun facts about elephants like:

~ An elephant can grow as big as a school bus and weigh as much as 250 student.

~ An elephant's trunk has over 100,000 muscles.

~ Elephants cry, play, have incredible memories, and laugh!

~ Elephants have greeting ceremonies when a friend that has been away for some time returns to the group.

~ September 22nd is Elephant Appreciation Day. (who knew?!?!?!)

During the fundraising period, you could ask an elephant related trivia question each morning during the announcements and draw a winner from the correct submitted answers. Here's a link to Ringling Brothers and their "Pondering Pachyderms" page (another catchy title, btw): www.ringling.com/cec/ponder.aspx

Our school is doing a coin collection for our zoo to build a new elephant house. I need some ideas on what to call it and how to show the money we raised to the students that kind of thing.
I was thinking "Pennies for Pachyderms" sp? or something like that. Can you PTO'ers think of anything catchy or some kind thing to put on the wall to show how we're doing?
I am not good at this part of PTO!!! LOL
