I recieved a fundrasier called Wireless Redemption from a PTO Today Packett. I'm wondering if this is a reliable fundrasier seeing that they don't have any contact information except for email address. They sent me the fundrasier kit to get started but know info on the percentage that the school will recieve as a result of this fundrasier. Is there a way for you to find out if this company is running a legitimate business.

I was going to say the same as the others work with the situation you have. The parent probalby didn't realize this was something she shouldn't have been doing. We had a siutation similarly too last year.
I would also look into possibly helping the teacher if you can maybe another way.

Good Luck

We also had a similar situation, and we did what has already been recommended. We then went a step further and worked out a plan with teachers involved that the PTO would HELP run another fundraiser specifically for their program but we needed support from the teachers and the parents of the classrooms involved. It worked out really well!

Oh no! You should not feel bad. First of all, I would approach the parent and find out exactly what was said. Then, I think both of you should go to the teacher and explain the situation. Pehaps the proceeds could be split (if there is enough) If the teacher really knows what goes on in your school, and knows that fundreaisers do not make a huge profit, perhaps she would be willing to help out to improve this one.
At our school, teacher requests for funding for small items and such go through the principal first (she has her own funding) and then the PTO. It must be approed by the board and the PTo (if request is over $100). If uner, the president may approve it herself.
Never is a parent allowed to send out notices by themselves. All notices going out by class parents, committee chairs and the like must go through approval of the principal and the PTO president, so we don't have an incident just like this one.
Be honest, and i believe that all will work out fine.

If you believe, you can achieve.

I agree with Dixie above and I would hurry if I were you. You need to take immediate action, speak to both the parent and teacher together and get it all aired out. The longer these women go with false expectations, the worse the repercussions will be. And you also need to set the ground rules for all fundraising: No monies will be promised or dispersed without a general membership vote. At least that is how we do it and it works for us.
I think your volunteers made honest mistakes and you need correct them and the relationship as soon as possible.

On the other hand, I have friends who are running an auction at my sons former school. There are teachers that are insisting on earmarking funds from this auction as their own. Yes, they want to use it for a worthy cause but they don't want to do any work in generating the funds. (auctions are huge amounts of work). And they want this agreed upon before the event occurs. Needless to say, it's causing alot of friction between the board, the co-chairs and the teachers (actually, it's only one teacher but she is the ringleader and insists on getting her way...always). Sorry to digress...

I am sorry for your predicament. I would speak to the parent that promised the money and find out exactly what was promised. I would explain that you expect to get $200 and that some of that money was promised elsewhere and see what you come up with. Even if you end up giving the whole amount, it is not going to make a big dent in a group of kids traveling anywhere; I mean a bus alone is more than that. I wouldn’t wait too long, see what the facts really are and work with it. Then I would have the both of you sit down with the teacher and explain exactly what the truth is., if the woman thinks it is more like $2000 from the soup super, the teacher isn’t going to see anything close to that, even f you gave the whole amount and will have to scurry to make up the difference with his/her own fundraising for the trip.
Just my opinion,
