Fundraiser unsuccessful

Wiggy - It could be that the prize was only desireable to some and not to the majority. If you could have sold tickets at a local event sponsored by the store where it was purchased, it may have been more successful. Every year an area Harley dealer has a huge sale, the radio station is there, they have free food etc. That is a prime opportunity to display the bike & sell tickets. For families to purchase 5 tickets or want to sell 5 tickets each, they need to want the prize. A family outing is great to baseball games, amusement parks etc.
Adams Eagles - If you know the kids involved, have the parents split the cost of what you are out. They need to be accountable and realize that what they did was stealing and is against the law.
All PTO's should have a locked room within their school. You are an organization that has partnered with your school administration so even if its a large broom closet, they should provide a place where you can lock up supplies. Otherwise, the school is also at fault and liable for theft.
Good Luck to both of you.

You need to do fundraisers that don't require you buying or paying for anything!
If you have to pay out of your pocket for product, your profit goes down dramatically!
There are several 100% profit fundraisers out there!
One of them is www.enfocusfundraising.com
Don't spend money to get a fundraiser, you may not get it all back!!

Your ideas for fixing the fundraiser next year are sound but I agree with other posters here as well. My husband has been bugging me for years to get a motorcycle and my answer is always a resounding no (I'm not a schrew, motorcycles scare me). You know your market best, regarding how coveted a new motorcyle would be to your school parents.

Re: pizza party, yes you have to do a pizza party.
Good luck.

We run a raffle every year around Thanksgiving. Last year we profited $2,054and we gave away gift cards to our local grocery store. Our parents love that! The child who sells each winning ticket gets a $15 gift card to Toys R Us. Maybe you should keep it simple the next time you run a raffle. Flashy prizes are nice, but it must be a prize that people can use. Just my opinion.

why not do a survey to your parents? ask them what would they be interested in participating for a raffle? motorcycle? cruise? tickets to disney? tickets to your local football team?

many of them will give input and may even donate something.

go ahead and have the pizza party and put a tip jar out.

ask for the other poster about candy bars.... keep them in a bin or keep them in your own home. we had mice at the high schools and ate all the candy bars, trail mix, granolla bars, pb crackers etc.... lots of money was lost!

Thank you for that. It really helps put it into perspective. Lesson learned and movin' on! We just may try another raffle but this time for a family trip to Disney World and much more knowledge on how this type of raffle should be run! I greatly appreciate everyone's responses. Thanks again!
