"If you build it they will come," more business and the like should have what PTO today offers here; a no fuss, no muss, no strings attatched place to get info; if you like you can purchase additional info More bang for your buck!!!!

Beats having to pay (or be a member- which I am) to get info I can find for free like some other **coughPTAcough** sites; No obligation here, just a knowing that someone might be in the same shoes as you and is looking for info and anyone can help regardless of socio, economical, or educational status

Many could learn from the examples given by offering this type of free service. Enhancing our childrens education and participation shouldnt cost $$$ (info sometimes yes- participation- NO)

PTAer - Tim seems to take a subtle, understated role here on the PTO Today message boards for the benefit of the people who post or just lurk around here. The boards are very inclusive and open to all parent group folks to share, learn, vent, etc.

I, for one, appreciate the approach Tim and his staff take. When topics get heated, off subject or too personal, he exerts his presence a bit more to get things back on track. When we hit a brick wall, their knowledge and experience help clarify topics or laws, rules, regulations, etc.

By stating his title as Founder, it lends credibility to his authority without being 'bossy'. He certainly doesn't seem to me to want to use his position to exploit any personal agenda or control too much of the conversation.

Just by watching how the PTO Today staff works here on the boards and how they work together as a team to help anyone who comes here find their own way teaches us a lot. I believe they're a great example for anyone striving for better leadership skills in the parent group arena.

Huh? My putting it in the header of every post I've ever made on this message board is somehow deceptive? I guess we disagree.

RE: the vested interest. That's actually a stretch, too. We don't make any money from groups going from PTA to PTO. I participate actively on this issue, because there really aren't any other independence-side voices on the issue. Before we came along, groups contemplating the change would hear only the "sky is falling" doom from the hundreds of state- and national-level PTA officials around the country. I never liked that. And I'm a stubborn mick who doesn't like to see volunteers get treated that way. That's all.

Oh, there it is in your login name. Might want to add it to your sign-off. I read several pages of this thread before figuring it out. I'm probably not the first.

Quick question: Tim, I'm assuming you're Tim Sullivan, founder of PTO Today? If so, wouldn't it be appropriate to say so prominently? People probably think you're a regular old PTO volunteer. Obviously you have a vested interest in switching folks from PTA to PTO. I'm sure you're sincere in your views, just think it's appropriate to be up front about your identity in these situations. Otherwise, it's like a Bissell engineer anonymously posting product reviews for their own vacuum on Amazon. Just a thought.

(I can tell you that I happen to be a PTA staffer.)
