No, thats not true. Our State bylaws say that for every 1 fundraiser you do you must provide 3 programs or events free of charge.

As an FYI, I'd wager pretty strongly that the "3-to-1 rulle" is not in your bylaws. Rather, it's a recommended practice. Many PTAs are under the impression that it's a bylaw and therefore mandated. The spirit of it is solid, though. Having your group thought of as a "just a fundraising machine" is a big negative.

Tim </font>[/QUOTE]Good point Tim. That is exactly what we are turning into...a FUNDRAISING MACHINE. Therefore, that is probably why the faculty and staff take us for granted and are not involved. What are your suggestions. We need to raise money but we don't want to be whored either (excuse my ENGLISH). HELP!!! Thanks

Michele4u- I got the resource books in the mail with the membership cards. About a week later I got a box with guide books(green covers) for all officers and a guide book for preparing standing rules for 2003-2005. I guess they came from the state office because they say NJ PTA across the cover. They also included a state handbook, the one-stop reference book(yellow cover).

Unlike NJ's PTA website, I was unable to find anything about a policy they "encourage" (cannot really enforce) that no fundraising be done.
the web address is www.azpta.org/
Who told you this? There are a lot of beliefs about what you can and can't do as a PTA and a lot of them are based on misinterpretations (like the pass it on game), or just plain someone doesn't know what they are talking about and looks as though they do.
If you want an answer about your PTA, they are the best place to get the answer.

Michele4u- The annual resources are supposed to be delivered (or mailed if they have the resources) to the PTA President, along with your membership cards. Our Region director distributes ours and because he works such long hours this year, some people have had to track him down. Sometimes they've been dropped off at the school and been misplaced or the President got it but wasn't as involved as they should and never shared.
A few years ago, the region director hardly delivered any of them. First check with your PTA Pres and see if he/she got it and if not call your state office and see who is in charge of getting it to you or if it was delivered, who it was sent to.
And it is free for all PTAs, courtesy of your dues.

Hi Bertha, PTA President Guide book? Where did you get this? We have not received anything from our state PTA, not even membership cards. Did you have to buy it? if so where?

OK, I stand corrected! I went back and checked the bylaws, its not in there but it is in my PTA President's Guide book. This is one rule we always follow. We used to have a fundraiser a month, now we only do 2 major fundraisers and 1 small fundraiser per year.
