Same Old Story (let's try a new twist to it)

Daron, I consider myself a southerner, a very conservitive one at that...that is as far as I will go on that subject.

Perhaps I am not the brightest bulb in the pack but I do not see Tim trying to take down the PTA as some seemingly thinks. When I come on here to the discussion board I see parents of "parent groups" asking questions and giving suggestions on how they can make their children's lives better. I see PTA posts asking about specific rules. Since the PTA has their own website, money, lobbyist, lawyers, and whatever else they have on hand I didn't figure there was a great need for PTAers to come on here unless it was to talk to other parents that want to make their child's school a safer, funner, and more educational place. I've gotten some great ideas from PTA members on this forum but I've also gotten some from PTOs and other acronyms that I have no idea what they stand for.

I really don't see any harm on making a little money on something so many of us having so much passion about. It is not like he is using his money to distribute pamphlets to hand out to persuade people to change their political views. This site focuses on parents and kids and their environment. How does that hurt anything?

As far as the blog on here. I really love it. It opens eyes. Whether it is a PTA or PTO member stealing thousands of dollars, who cares? The point of those stories (I think) is it can happen anywhere. It makes me want to be a little more cautious. Who cares if it is PTA or PTO that is getting a postive light shed on them in those volunteer articles. The point of that is (again my opinion) is that it puts light on volunteering and hopefully will want to make others want to pitch in and help.

I am sure that many people will disagree with me but like mykidsmom said, I live in America. If I don't like what I see I can take it off my favorites list.

Tim..thank you!!! :D

I have to do it.......THREADJACK!!

neither...I pick Sprite with a grape jolly rancher in it

and god love god for creating it......chocolate

and definately CHOCOLATE sprinkles esp in chocolate milkshakes like you can get at Chili's is to die for people...

It's so off topic but I couldn't resist picking

I think the original poster needs to go get a chocolate sprinkle chocolate shake OR a iced carmel cappicino with extra whipped cream, that stuff is the best in the world to help you relax

I think I've just unintentionally declared myself a junk food addict

Daron--Dude, let it go. Move on. If this site is that aggravating to you, focus all that energy into a more positive format at the PTA website.

My view is somewhat slanted against PTA, because the same county PTA that harasses Bertha also causes angst for us, so I tend to think ALL PTAs are this way. I appreciate the PTA for all its done, and still tries to do for kids. I also like that it provides a united parent front to do things like lobby our politicians on important issues concerning our children. I also like that when there's a grievance with your local unit, you do have an organized chain of command to get your problem resolved (unlike PTOs which all to often are at the mercy of either the school district or principal when there's nonsense going on with the PTO board etc).

I appreciate WHY they have their regulations and philosphies...BUT...I have a problem with any outside entity telling me what I should and should not be doing in MY school. I also dislike HAVING to pay dues if I wish to even be considered for a homeroom mother position in my own school (it's a PTA organized function). Like I said, maybe New Jersey (or at least my county) is the black sheep as far as PTA goes, I don't know.

Personally, I'd like to see every school with a PTA and a PTO. That way everyone's needs could be met. I know a lot of people worry about turf wars, but I really don't see that as a problem so long as people are educated on what the purposes of each group are. We could let the PTA take on larger issues such as curriculum deficiencies, test scores, getting more for our tax dollar than we currently are and instituting whatever programs they wish that further their mission statement/goals. PTO could handle the "everyday" tasks in the classrooms and school, and institute whatever programs and goals further that particular group's mission statement/goals.

It's all a tempest in a teapot in the end. Like someone once said, "why can't we all just get along?!"
