PTO/PTA Questions/Comments, etc.

At our schools, I think the policies are pretty evenly applied, so I don't know of situations where one parent group can purchase something another can't.

The district has had to monitor more closely certain activities in the last few years such as the purchase of technology (computers), equipment which requires maintenance, and grant applications.

There have been cases in the past where well-meaning parent groups have wanted to purchase equipment or get it donated - which sounded great in the short term. But in the long term there would be other expenses the school had to absorb or equipment might not be compatible with the school's requirements.

But as far as I know, those limitations across the board.

Seems like you need to talk to whomever is imposing these uneven restrictions.

(That's assuming the SCHOOL/DISTRICT is responsible. If it's PTA rules that prevent you from purchasing something, then I don't know what the issue would be with some other group doing it.)

I would like to hear any opinions/facts relating to the following question...

The problem our PTA is running into is that the PTA cannot purchase certain pieces of equipment for our school (which would greatly help the school and the children)...because of all the budget cuts the schools are seeing it is just impossible for the schools to get some of the educational items that could really benefit the children. The parents at our school are really getting confused with all of these different groups (different groups of parents not associated with the PTA) running fundraisers to be able to purchase these extra items that the PTA is not ALLOWED to purchase. Has anyone run into this situation??? How did you handle it???
