PTA problem

kmamom- It doesn't sound like you are trying to replace your PTA but work as a supplement to it. There isn't any reason that you couldn't coexist peacefully. One question though? Why was it a problem for the PTA to raise money for the playground? I have several schools that have done that and I'm wondering what the reason behind it was? I realize that different states do things differently but I often wonder which ones are really following the rules and which ones are playing cowboy.

Hi tryinghard, I'm not going to answer your question, because it is really a PTO question (and I've answered before and I'm PTA) but I did want to touch on something. Sometimes bad people get into a position of power and they hurt things rather than help them. It sounds as though that is your situation. Not all of us are like that but sadly, it's those people who "get the press" so to speak. What you need to know is that they aren't the absolute word. From what you describe it really sounds as though you should express your concerns to your state board before they do anymore damage.
If that doesn't work (sometimes bad people get even bigger positions of power), go above them. I've had some correspondence myself with National's PTA pres, Linda Hodge and she is a very nice lady.
Even if you do decide to leave PTA, you shouldn't let this go on like that. It hurts us that are trying and if I could, I'd do it for you but you would have more clout than I, being it is your state and your situation. It really concerns me when you say that they come at you and your child. I sincerely hope this works out for you because things like that leave a VERY BAD taste in my mouth. If you need help contacting your state, let me know (via e-mail in my profile) and I will help you any way I can.

Tell him you are having an affair! Tell him you're having one with your child's education! LOL LOL LOL (I really shouldn't laugh at my own jokes, huh?)...

Anyway, welcome aboard!

He meant to say that there is a section that covers PTOvsPTA issues right here on this very site and that it is very interesting reading.

Look above to the right, click where it says "PTOtoday Discussion Forums" in blue, or to the right under Community Sharing and click on Discussion Forum. Look down the list of topics and you will see one that says something like PTOvsPTA or something like that. Click there and let the reading begin...lol...

Welcome to the Discussion Forums!

Jon--I just read your responses to my posts and I'm wondering what you're meaning is. Should I take this as a negative dig or something? I'm very new to this whole PTA/PTO forum, so if I've mispoken on an issue I apologize.
