PTA and President Bush

Just my opinion, but in the quote you've provided, the speaker is not talking about anything except the lack of full funding for the "No Child Left Behind" initiative which has the PTA's backing. This law mandates that schools must do certain things within a certain time frame but does not give them enough funding to make it work.

Their intentions are pure in heart, I'm sure, but you've made a very good point!

A direct quote from a press release found at PTA.org regarding the State of the Union Address from President Bush Tuesday night.....

"President Bush's 2004 State of the Union address left the education community, once again, concerned that there is little relief in sight for our nation's struggling public education system. National PTA, on behalf of 6 million parents across the country, is dismayed that the president continues to fail to provide the resources necessary to fulfill the promises of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and has not recognized increased education funding as a top priority for his administration in 2004."

What strikes me is the National PTA chooses to be dismayed on behalf of all 6 million members, rather than ask them what they thought. I suspect at least one or two PTA members probably liked the President's presentation and proposals.

And the "no-politics" stance of the PTA strikes again.....
