Hoping to Win Them Over

Our next PTA board meeting is 1/26.

Since 1/4 I have read just about all I can from this website, along with my unit bylaws, as well as the state bylaws in regards to disbanding a PTA.

I am sold on the PTO idea, but now I have to attempt to convince the rest of the board. Actually, it would be more accurate to say that I will be presenting the pros and cons of both, so that they can make the most informed decision.

Knowing that people typically don't take the time to do independent research, I want to be able to present them with as much information as I can, in as succinct a fashion as I can. Is the PTOvPTA article the best thing to present? It seems like I should give them some information in bulleted form instead.

Much of my argument toward becoming a PTO comes from wanting something different that will serve us as effectively with less red tape. The rest comes from what I've read from this website, and therein lies my problem. I want to come across well-rounded and informed, rather than sounding like I'm completely sold from what I've read here (though as far as I'm concerned, how could I not be? ). I suspect I may get some feedback like "well, this is just one website. How do you know they know what they are talking about?" (since this is new territory for us, the PTA, although annoying to many of us, might seem like a "necessary evil" as it's what's familiar).

What more should I be doing to best respond to that? Is there background information available (about the homework that's been done to start PTOToday), legal argument (for the state of CA) or other similar information, or anything else anyone can think of that I can "arm" myself with prior to this meeting?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. :D
