Consolidation of two elementary schools!

21 years 11 months ago #75390 by LUVMYKIDS
Our community is going thru a "newer and fewer" program to reduce the number of elementary schools. Our school was chosen as one to add on to and the students from an adjoining attendance center will now come to our school beginning this fall. Our two PTOs started working together last school year having joint meetings and they also joined us in planning and enjoying our spring carnival. The plan was to become one PTO with parents from both schools sitting on the board for this year. Unfortunately, their PTO had few active members, so only one person stepped forward for a board seat(she will be my vice prez). The president from the school that was closing has given us all the records and notes from their PTO. She also closed their checking and transferred the funds to our account(we bank at the same bank). We are simply blending together...we will look at programs from both schools and pick what will work best with the larger student population and all the parents and teachers are now members of one PTO. We had some problems at first, and I'm sure they're not over, but we'll get through them.

I suggest that you get parents from both schools together and work out plans for a "new" PTO. That way the organization will be established with thoughts and ideas from both sides and soon you will be one "family".

Don't know if this helps, but if you have specific questions, I'd be happy to answer from our experiences.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

We have a dilemna at our school. As of the end of the school year 2001-2002 we had two elementary schools now one has been closed. There is no national PTO so one PTO is fitting over what to do with their assets (money and equipment purchased over years past). The PTO at the remaining school feels it should come to our school because that is where the children will be going -- we consolidated due to decline in children. Having no "OFFICIAL" guidelines what can be done? Someone please help us this has become a HUGE disagreement!
