Or maybe WE should run for BOE. After all, we're the ones out in the trenches every day, so to speak. I'm seriously considering it.

silver lining, maybe some of our kids will become law makers or school administrators/BOE ers, and make rules with sense.

We just got a note today -- No Bday parties -- food rules, too much time BUT you can donate a book to our newly refurbished library.

My kids are very charitable but "Honey for your 8th Bday were donating a book to the school library instaed of a school party" Sorry XXX , the way it was worded was just plain rude and too needy

I'm in NJ also but we haven't heard anything from our Board of Ed yet regarding food policies. I wonder if the policies are being enforced voluntarily in just some districts and not in others and if in fact they are statewide. We do a pie and cookie dough sale in the fall and of course we have lots of class parties especially leading up to Halloween. Even the teachers hand out treats to the kids at that time.

back to the orig question, we stopped ALL fundraisers and are doing donation-only. it works very well, and the parent grp keeps 100% of donations (vs only a fraction of the fundraiser revenues in the past). this strategy doesnt work at all schools, but its worth a try at some.

also, NO food at class parties, complete ban. in fact, there are NO bday parties anymore, full stop. talk about draconian, we shall see how it plays out during the year. i bet the custodian will be the happiest person at school with these new rules for class parties.

well Texas is the home of the CUPCAKE AMENDMENT. parents insisted last yr on their right to still celebrate class parties with cupcakes; the amendment passed.

i thought the law refers only to the foods that THE SCHOOL SERVES, READ 'SELLS' and are reimbursed in the national school lunch program.

If the school tries to impose rules on what parents can send in the sack lunch, or to class parties, or sell thru parent group catalogs(after all, those fundraisers dont even happen on school grounds or during the teahcing hours) that doesnt sound like america to me, or the laws intent. But read it for yourself:
